Abstract:

The geriatric period is a time that includes increase in dependence due to the declines in functions, loss of status as a result of the changes in cultural values and traditional extended family structure, and decrease economic power due to the loss of productivity and retirement. Social and physical problems that occur during the geriatric period, the issues that old person and family members have related to these above mentioned have brought up the elder care and approach issue. Abuse and neglect of the elderly among cases of approach to old people is especially important social issue that has been discussed in the world-wide. It is important to know the signs of neglect and abuse, and risk groups in avoiding abuse and neglect of the elderly. Abuse and neglect can be seen in all the old people. But, especially sensitive old people who have mental disorder, dependence others to meet basic needs or have depression or patient constitutes the risk groups. Old people constitute a valuable and important part of human resources of the community. Any kind of abuse and neglect of the elderly is not acceptable. Therefore, it is required to prevent and determine abuse and neglect of the elderly by means of the measurements are to be taken and various attempts.
