In the ophthalmological examination of the ten-year-old girl, who was applied with a complaint of redness in both eyes for three days, conjunctival hyperemia, small petechial bleeding and cover swelling were diagnosed with adenoviral conjunctivitis. During the patient's fundus examination, congenital optical disk druzene was detected. Ten days later, in the OKT scans, an increase in disk charge was observed with the thickness of the layer of optical disk nerve fiber. In patients with no reduction in vision accuracy, para-infectious optical neuritis was considered. The obesity developed on the optical disk in their follow-up dropped by itself without systemic treatment. The purpose of this phenomenon presentation is to provide the development of para-infectious optical neuritis in a child with adenoviral conjunctivitis.
Ophthalmologic examination of a ten-year-old girl, who presented with erythema in both eyes for three days revealed conjunctival hyperemia, small petechial hemorrhages and valve edema, was diagnosed with adenoviral conjunctivitis. Congenital optic disc drusen was detected in fundus examination. Ten days later, OCT scans showed increased optic disc nerve fiber layer thickness and disc edema. Parainfection optic neuritis was considered in the patient, who had no decrease in visual acuity. In the follow-up, edema developed in the optic disc resolved spontaneously without systemic treatment. The aim of this case report is to present the development of parainfectious optic neuritis in a child with adenoviral conjunctivitis.
