Abstract:

In countries where democratic electoral systems are applied, general and local elections are one of the evidence that democracy is practicable and most important. The voters will determine the top representatives of the legislative and executive forces in general elections, while the local elections will determine their representatives within the province and district borders they are. All these elections become an important situation in the developing countries where democracy increases with the interest of citizens in the political sphere. One of the important developments in Turkey in 2019 where politics, economics and social life were focused was the 31 March 2019 local elections. In these elections, candidates, parties, formally established coalitions, formally established, unfounded or desired non-formal coalitions have often appeared on the agenda. The local elections of 31 March 2019 ended differently than expected in some places, and in some places it took place as the public expected. In particular, the results of the Metropolitan Municipality elections, developments such as the renewal of the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality elections on 23 June 2019 have increased the importance of the 2019 local elections. In Turkey, these processes occur while the majority of the municipality in the province of Malatya won the election of the Republic Alliance and AK Party candidate Selahattin Gürkan. Maltya was the second highest-vote-elected majority municipality among the majorities of the province of Konya. However, the results received in the 13 districts, including the central districts of Malatya, and the results in the majority mayor's vote are quite noticeable. From here on, in this study, an assessment of the local election results was made on 31 March 2019 with the recognition that each district has its own cause and result relationship.
