The aim of this study was to assess nutritional status, food consumption and the quality of life of patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus. Observational transversal study. The nutritional status was determined by Body Mass Index. Food consumption was estimated by 24-hour food recall, emphasizing the intake ofcalories (kcal), proteins, carbohydrates, lipidsand fibers. Glycated hemoglobin and the quality of life were assessed through the DQOL-Brasilquestionnaire. The study included 27 subjects with a meanage of 43.66 ± 15.74 years and 27.06 ± BMI average of 4.79 kg/m2. Regarding food consumption, average values were: 26.29 ± 4.73 kcal/kg/day, 70.53 ± 14.55% CHO, 0.90 ± 0.53 g / PTN / kg / day, 27.13 ± 8.23% of LIP and 16.3 ± 5.83 g of fibers. The average glycated hemoglobin was 7.48 ± 0.64%. The average total score DQOL-Brazil was 2.39 ± 0.34. Individuals are overweight and show food inadequacy in relation to carbohydrate intake. The quality of life of these individuals can be classified as partially satisfactory. Nutritional monitoring is of extreme need, since such monitoring is a cornerstone for the treatment of diabetes, which improves nutritional status, contributes to the reduction of the inflammatory process of the disease and improve insulin sensitivity, achieving better glycemic control and thus, it can improve the quality of life of these individuals, minimizing the concerns related to the disease.
