Abstract:

In addition to the positive effects of coaches who have professional ethics, are experts in their field, have a high sense of responsibility and tolerance at the same time, coaches who act outside of professional ethics, who do not have sufficient equipment, knowledge and skills can also have negative effects. The training of athletes by coaches with unethical behaviors is a situation that may damage the concept and understanding of ethics in sports. The aim of the study is to examine the attitudes and behaviors of football coaches towards professional ethics and to provide the results of the study with recommendations and literature. The population of the study consists of individuals who have a football coaching certificate in Muğla province, and the sample consists of football coaches who have a coaching certificate and are actively working or not working. In order to collect data for the study, the personal information form prepared by the researchers and the "Coaches' Professional Ethical Behaviors Scale (AMEDÖ)" developed by Kayır and Özbek (2019) were used to measure the attitudes and behaviors of coaches towards the concept of ethics. In this direction, the data of 115 volunteer participants were obtained through the questionnaire form prepared on Google form. Kurtosis and skewness analysis were used to understand whether the scale scores were normally distributed, Kruskal Wallis-H test was used to test the differences between groups in groups that did not show normal distribution, and nonparametric Mann-Whitney U test was used for the comparison of two independent groups. As a result of the analysis, a significant difference was found in favor of female coaches in terms of gender variable. No significant difference was found in terms of age, education level, coaching level, coaching period and organization of coaching.
