Abstract:

In this study, it is aimed to determine the perceptions of university students studying in different faculties about Mehmet Âkif Ersoy and the National Anthem. The study group of the research consists of 25 university students studying at various faculties in the 2021-2022 academic year. The research was designed as a phenomenology research, one of the qualitative research designs. The research data were collected through the compositions written by the students about Mehmet Âkif Ersoy and the Turkish national anthem. Content analysis with an inductive method was used in the analysis of the data. As a result of the analysis of student compositions, 38 different codes were reached and the themes of "Mehmet Âkif Ersoy with Various Aspects", "The Turkish National Anthem in the Eyes of Students" and "Emotions and Thoughts" were reached. According to this, the students first started to describe Mehmet Âkif Ersoy without leaving the perspective created by the national struggle on the basis of their compositions, they tried to define his character and to emphasize his literary aspect, and the Turkish nation's desire for freedom and independence, the belief in unity and solidarity, the belief in the national struggle, the independence of the Turkish National Anthem. It has been seen that they think that it is a literary epic that shares their feelings and emotions and instills hope, faith and courage in its readers. As a result, it was concluded that the students internalized the principles and values of Mehmet Âkif and the National Anthem, understood its meaning, and were determined to constantly glorify and keep alive both values with this awareness.
