In this article, the musical expression of the acclaimed composer, teacher and concert pianist of the Romantic Period, Clara Schumann is mentioned. Prior to her marriage with Robert Schumann, she also became famous under the name Clara Josephine Wieck by leading the content and repertoire choices of the piano concerts of the period. In this research, composing and performing aspects of Clara Schumann were evaluated, her works, her piano technique and poetic expression that she brought to piano literature were focused on. Furthermore the social and musical changes occurred in Europe in the early 19th century, the leading female composers and artists, widespread use of the piano and the newly invented forms of music were discussed. Clara Schumann’s Op.21 Three Romances were examined in terms of form, harmony, melody, rhythm, technical and musical aspects of playing. Additionally they were evaluated in terms of interpretaiton and musical achievements from a pianist’s point of view. Preparing this article, qualitative research methods used such as literature review, sheet music archives, text analysis and musical analysis. In this research, it is aimed to contribute to interpretive and technical development of the musicians by understanding the importance of the work that composer brought to piano literature more accurately.
