Abstract:

The concept of news is seen as one of the difficult areas to reach a consensus on. According to the liberal view, news is the fourth estate and at the same time it is in an important position to fill the gap between the two elections left open by democracy. At the same time, in the liberal view, news is a concept that is not affected by external factors and conveys the truth to the reader. According to the critical view, on the other hand, news is a form of “truth that can be bent and twisted”. Power, capital and ideology play an important role in this bending process. In both views, reality continues to exist. The aim of the study is to address the concept of reality, which is the main factor of the news, different from the criticisms made in defining the news. In defining the news, a new perspective is brought based on Baudrillard’s Simulation view and his thoughts on the news. This type of news, which is frequently heard as fake news in the Post-Truth era, is different from Post-News. When considered in the context of Arendt’s and Baudrillard’s criticisms of truth, the lie is what stands against the truth. This situation is different in Baudrillard. Nothing can be put in front of the reality that is not there. In the light of these discussions, news can only be explained as a simulacrum. Within the universe of simulation, the news tries to replace reality itself. The news, detached from reality, falls on the disintegrating subject in the form of a bombardment. The reader is surrounded by simulacra in this simulation loom. The reinterpretation of the news in this simulation order is also a step for further news discussions. The news passes through three phases and completes its task. Firstly, it is – like news was ,that is, the news that is expected to be. The second stage is post-ideological news, which is the news that fills the concealment gap shown by ideology. Finally, it is simulation news, simulacrum news that prevents us from leaving the simulation loom.
