Öğretmen adaylarının öğretmenlik mesleğini tercih etme nedenleri, mesleki performansları ve gelecek beklentileri üzerinde etkili olması nedeniyle önem taşımaktadır. Bu bağlamda bu araştırmanın amacı da okul öncesi öğretmen adaylarının öğretmenlik mesleğini tercih etme nedenlerini incelemektir. Araştırmanın çalışma grubunu bir devlet üniversitesinin Okul Öncesi Öğretmenliği Anabilim dalında öğrenim görmekte olan 90 öğretmen adayı oluşturmaktadır. Görüşme formu aracılığıyla toplanan veriler kategorisel içerik analizi yöntemiyle analiz edilmiştir. Analizler sonucunda öğretmen adaylarının öğretmenlik mesleğini hem içsel hem de dışsal faktörlerle tercih ettikleri ortaya çıkmıştır. Ancak tercih nedenlerinde içsel faktörlerin dışsal faktörlere kıyasla daha etkili olduğu tespit edilmiştir. Diğer taraftan elde edilen bulgulara göre katılımcıların büyük bir kısmı üniversiteye yerleşme aşamasında okudukları bölümü ilk sıralarda tercih ettiklerini ve tekrar tercih şansları olsa okul öncesi öğretmenliği programını yeniden tercih edeceklerini ifade etmişlerdir.
The reasons for pre-service teachers to choose the teaching profession are important as they affect their professional performance and future expectations. The aim of this study is to investigate the reasons of pre-school teacher candidates for choosing teaching profession. The study group consists of 90 teacher candidates studying at the Preschool Education Program of a state university. The data collected through the interview form were analyzed during the categorical content analysis method. As a result of the analysis, it was revealed that the teacher candidates chose the teaching profession with both intrinsic and extrinsic factors. However, it was determined that intrinsic factors are more effective than extrinsic factors. On the other hand, as a result of the research, most of the participants stated that they preferred their department as their first choice in the university placement stage, and that they would prefer the preschool teaching program if they had the chance to choose again.
