Globalization and the competitive environment it brings with have the potential to endanger the sustainability of family businesses. Institutionalization and strategic management can be effective tools for family businesses to cope with these dangers. The aim of this study is to examine the role and effect of strategic management in the institutionalization process on the basis of family businesses. As a result of the research, it was concluded that institutionalization in family businesses is more possible with strategic management principles. In addition, strategic alliances that can provide competitive advantage are beneficial for businesses; it has been determined that the strategic plan of the enterprise includes the procedure for performance differences and the compliance of the relevant plans and budgets with the institutionalization policies following the determination of the business strategy.
