Abstract:

The aim of this research is to develop a tool to measure attitude towards adults with mental disability. In the framework of the study, 468 participants from four different universities located in the Black Sea, Mediterranean, Egean and Inner Anadolu regions of Turkey, including 258 women (55.15) and 210 (44.87) men, were reached. The structural validity of the scale is studied by opening and verifying factors analysis. The internal consistency method has been used for reliability analysis. The opening factor analysis resulted in a 24-matter and five-factor structure called ‘free time’, ‘education support’, ‘life support’, ‘sexuality’ and ‘work life’. These five factors explained 63.33% of the total variance of the scale. The verifying factor analysis results showed that the scale is well aligned. The reliability of the measurement was studied with the Cronbach alpha internal consistency ratio and the Cronbach α values were found as .93 for the "free-time" size, .88, for the "educational support" size, .80 for the "life support" size, .84 for the "gender" size, .62 for the "work life" size and .88 for the entire size. The results of the analysis have found that the attitude measurement towards adult individuals with adult mental disability is a valid and reliable measurement tool.
