Abstract:

The aim of this research is to study the students' views on activities based on non-class education in the 4th class social information course. In the research, the quality research patterns have been used by the olgubilim (fenomenology) pattern. The research work group consists of 33 students studying in the 4th grade of a primary school at the middle socio-economic level in İzmir in the 2018-2019 educational year. For a six-week period, the 4th class social information course is carried out with non-class educational activities and practices prepared by the researcher on people, places and environments in the field of learning. A semi-configured conversation form developed by the researcher as a data collection tool has been used. The research data was collected by the researcher and the research data was analyzed through content analysis. According to the results of the study, students expressed that they learned by seeing, touching, feeling, continuous learning, enjoying and participating actively in the activities. Students have emphasized that the activities are positively influenced by giving them the opportunity to experience feelings like fun, joy, excitement, happiness, and by giving them the opportunity to experience different and interesting experiences in different environments, the level of interest and curiosity in the class has increased. Students also expressed that their learning is permanent because they learned by living through the activities. Students identify the most beneficial environments for themselves, they have attracted attention to features such as the application of the activities in the environment, the fact that the environment is an interesting and important source of information, the fact that it is suitable for research and discovery.
