21. yüzyılda sanat ve tasarım içeriğinde mekân sadece fiziki alan olarak değil, aynı zamanda sosyal/kültürel/politik alanların belirlediği zihinsel algıları açığa çıkaran alan olarak da anılmaktadır. Denebilir ki; fiziki işlevinin dışında düşünceler mekânı oluşturmakta ve mekâna yeni işlevler, anlamlar, düşünsel temsiliyetler yüklemektedir. Bu nedenle, sanat ve tasarımın varlık bulduğu yer olarak mekân, günümüzde sanatçı-tasarımcı için var olan yüzeylerin de dışında deneyim, temsil, imge, işaret ve gösterge, olarak yeniden şekillenebilmektedir. Bu dönüşümü sağlayan beden olarak öznenin varlığıdır. Böylece mekân ile ilişkilendirilen düşünsel yapılanmayı açığa çıkarak özne ile anlamlar, duyumlar, hayal gücü gibi sınırları zorlayan soyut kavramların ortaya çıkması sağlanmış olur. Bu yazının kök düşüncesi, sanatta ve tasarımda mekân dendiğinde fiziki alanın yanı sıra, öznenin ve teknolojinin değişimin koşullarına bağlı olarak ortaya çıkan soyut-düşünsel algı mekânlarının varlığına da işaret edebilmektir.
In the art and design content in the 21st century, space is referred not only to as a physical field, but also as a field that reveals the mental perceptions determined by the social/cultural/political fields. It can be said that, outside the physical function, thoughts create space and load new functions, meaning, mental representations into the space. Therefore, as the place where art and design found existence, the space can be re-formed as experience, representation, image, sign and indicator, in addition to the surfaces that exist today for the artist-designer. This is the transformation of the body. Thus, the discovery of the thought structure associated with the space is provided for the appearance of abstract concepts that force the boundaries with the essence, the senses, the imagination. The root thought of this article is to be able to point out the existence of the physical space, as well as the abstract-thought perception spaces that arise depending on the conditions of change of essence and technology when it is called space in art and design.
“Space” refers to not only physical space but also an area that reveals mental perceptions, which are determined by social/cultural/political fields in the context of art and design in the 21st century. It can be said that it creates a space of thought apart from its physical function, and loads it with new functions, meanings, and mental representations. For this reason, space, in which art and design come into existence, can be reshaped as an experience, representation, an image, a mark, and an indicator apart from surfaces existing for artist-designers today. The thing that provides this transformation is the existence of the subject as a body. Thus, conceptual structure associated with the space is revealed and abstract concepts such as meanings, sensations, and imagination pushing the limits are also unfolded by the subject. The main idea of this study is to show the existence of spaces of abstract-mental perception that arise depending on the conditions of changes in the subject and technology as well as physical space when considering the space in art and design.
