Abstract:

This study aims to examine listening/watching, speaking, reading and writing activities and preparation studies in 6th, 7th and 8th-grade teacher's guidebooks in terms of interdisciplinary approach. To this end, preparation studies concerning texts and listening/watching, speaking, reading and writing activity sections in 6th, 7th and 8th-grade teacher's guidebooks were examined by the researcher. Accordingly, the study attempts to determine to what extent interdisciplinary approach are included in the sample books and whether there is a relationship between Turkish class and other disciplines. This study is a content analysis research using document analysis method that is a qualitative research method. Research data was collected in 6th, 7th and 8th-grade teacher's guidebooks published by the Ministry of National Education (MEB) as well as 6th-grade guide book by Dörtel Publishing House, 7th-grade guide book by Meram Publishing House and 8th-grade guide book by Dikey Publishing House. The sample books consist of those that are adopted as teacher’s guidebooks in middle schools by the Board of Education of Ministry of National Education as of 2010-2011 academic year and approved as textbooks in 2016-2017 academic year across the country. Preparation studies concerning texts and instructions concerning listening, speaking, reading and writing skills in guidebooks published by MEB, Dörtel, Meram and Dikey Publishing Houses were classified with respect to the relationships of Turkish class with other disciplines (Social Studies, English, Science, Mathematics, Information Technologies, Visual Arts, Music and Physical Education). The study has found out that the relationship with other disciplines are intensified and there is little interdisciplinarity in listening/watching, speaking, reading and writing sections. The study has also concluded that the relationship with other disciplines in of Turkish class teacher's guidebooks is weak.
