The purpose of this study is to evaluate whether human resources management audit contributes to the overall orgamzational performance To answer or test the question first it was sought if firms utilize human resource management audit at all; second for those firms which use human resource management audit whether they report audit results into organizational decisions as a feedback Finally this study attempted to determine the criteria used for human resource management audit In order to obtain answers for the study questionnaires comprised of itemsdealing with HMR audit were sent to the human resource mangers of the 500 largest companies in Turkey Besides some of the companies included in the sample were also interviewed consistent with the study purpose Some of the findings after the data analysis follow as: Some 56 of the firms reported that they systematically audit their human resource management activities • Firms give priority to use number of employees trained andachievement of organizationalobjectives as audit criteria • The study showed that majority of firms operate their human resource management approach activities in accordance with the personel management approach; however change of approach to human resource • management seems to be underway • Furthermore the study showed that firms with human resource management approach have utilized audit process mare frequently • Finally it was found that human resource managemenCs influence on the brganizational performance is moderate
