The aim of the study is to investigate the effect of concept map and V diagram on academic achievement and permanence in science laboratory lesson The study was applied to the 89 3rd class candidate teachers` of elementary science education programs at Gazi University at the educational year of 2007–2008 second semester In the study pre test post test control group design was used In the control group subjects were given traditional teaching method while in the experimental group subjects were given teaching method which based on concept map and V diagram In application academic achievement test was given as pre and post test to both classes The lesson was given to both classes during the 12 weeks Permanence test was given both groups after four weeks of application finished The data was collected using academic achievement test which include all units of science laboratory lesson The test consists of 33 items and was developed by researchers KR–20 was used for reliability analysis and for validity of test the opinions of five experts were taken The reliability value of the test was found as KR–20 = 78 SPSS program was used in the statistical analysis of data collected and independent sample test was used to test study’s hypothesis The results analysis of data showed that experimental group had a significantly higher score than control group respect to academic achievement test scores The results of permanence test showed that knowledge which is taught was more permanent in experimental group than control group Key Words: Concept Map V Diagram Laboratory Achievement Permanence
