Sailing sport widely takes place in coastal areas of Turkey both for marine tourism and as a sport branch for racing which involves competitors. Also, it is observed that tourism and competitors are supported by each other. Sailing sport is done in various branches starting from optimist to all ages by a good few of sailing clubs which are regulated under Turkish Sailing Federation. International and national races are organized in many branches of sailing sport. In race organizations, logistic services can be planned and performed by sport clubs or race organizers as also federations. While athletes (performers), trainers, referees and coordination of personnel are constituting the human-related side of logistics processes; managing the movement and supply of boats (referee, search and rescue, trainer, racing), sails, lunch boxes, safety equipment, etc. are in the material side. Sailing races usually take up between two or five days and if an emergency condition occurs (such as weather) referees are able to change the rules, raceways and/or time. Therefore, service providers who are responsible for logistics of race have to cope with great numbers of unsteady variables. The purpose of this research is to find efficient ways for sailing race organizations by investigating them under the fundamental functions of logistics and to contribute to organization and sports logistics literature by providing a sample sailing race organization flow chart.
