Bu çalışmanın amacı fotoğrafın aydınlanma düşüncesiyle bağını inceleyerek dünyayı algılayış biçimimize etkisini irdelemektir. Analog fotoğrafın göstergebilimsel yönü incelendiğinde ileti ve iz olarak iki anlayış ortaya çıkar. Fotoğraf ileti olarak ele alındığında, çektiği şeyi nesneye dönüştürür ve nesnesinin yerine geçerek onu araçsallaştırır. Aydınlanmanın düşüncesi, dünyayı bir bilgi edinme alanı olarak ele almış, dünyayı araçsallaştırarak, onunla olan ilişkimizi onun bilgisine erişmek amacı üzerinden kurmuştur. Bu yaklaşım, dünyanın bir araç, bir temsil, bir imge olarak algılanmasına sebep olmuştur. Düşünme sistemimizin temsiller yoluyla çalıştığı düşüncesi, dilbilim ve göstergebilim gibi alanların da gelişmesine olanak sağlamıştır. Dünyanın, insanın hizmetindeki kaynak olarak benimsenmesi, doğal kaynakların geri döndürülemez noktaya gelmesi sorununu doğurmuştur. Fotoğraf ise ileti olarak kullanıldığında, dünyanın imgesel bir ikizini üreterek dünyayı tanımlar ve temsillerini oluşturur. Fotoğrafın iz olarak kullanımındaysa çekilen şeyin yokluğunun, boşluğunun, artık orada olmayışının altı çizilir. İz, bizi temsile veya bilgiye değil temsil edildiğinde burada olmayan şeye götürür. Bu nüans, insanın dünyayı algılama ve imge üretim şeklini değiştirebilir.
The purpose of this study is to examine the relationship between the concept of illumination in photography and its impact on our perception of the world. When the semiotic aspect of analog photography is examined, two understandings emerge: message and trace. When photography is considered as a message, it turns what it captures into an object and instrumentalizes it by replacing it. The idea of illumination considers the world as an area for acquiring knowledge. Therefore, it has tried to describe and illuminate the world. The world has started to be perceived as a representation, an image, and as a result, the problem of grasping the world as a resource at the service of humans has arisen. This way of thinking has dragged the world into the Anthropocene era. Our representation system constitutes the fundamental point of this thinking system. When photography is used as a message, it defines the world by producing an imagery twin and creates its representations. When photography is used as a trace, it emphasizes the absence, emptiness, and the fact that what is captured is no longer there. The trace takes us not to representation or information, but to something that is not present here when it is represented. This nuance difference can alter the way a person perceives and generates imagery of the world.
