Overweight and obesity are considered risk factors for the development of Diabetes Mellitus (DM). The study aimed to correlate the Body Adiposity Index (BAI) with anthropometric indicators of health risk (IHR) in 30 women with Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus (DM2). The excess of centripetal adiposity, overweight and/or obesity were predicted using BAI, body mass index (BMI), waist circumference (WC), waist/hip ratio (WHR), waist-height ratio (WHTR) and Conicity Index (IC). The mean age, body mass, height, WC and hip were 61.1 (± 30.1 years), 147.2 cm (± 6.5), 63.7 kg (± 14.3), 100, 1 (± 12.7 cm) and 97.8 (± 6.9 cm). Analyzing the BAI, 93.3% of the subjects presented obesity and presented an average of the adiposity percentage of 38.8 (± 5.53%). The WHTR and WC presented a high correlation (0.87 and 0.74) with BAI, respectively, while BMI, IC and WHR presented respectively a moderate (0.64 and 0.51) and low (0.12) in the totalized sample. The WHTR, WC, BMI and IC presented respectively a high (0.89 and 0.81) and a moderate (0.65 and 0.65) correlation with the BAI in adults, except the WHR (0.26), however, in the elderly only the WHTR, BMI and WC presented respectively high (0.85 and 0.77) and moderate (0.67) correlation with BAI, however, WHR (-0.18) and IC (0.13) presented a low correlation. The findings support the adequate selection of IHR as a facilitating applicability in adults and the elderly evaluated.
