Venedik Bienali’nin Osmanlı Imparatorluğu’yla Ilk Teması: Saray Koleksiyonundan Bir Tablo Talebi

Abstract:

Venedik Bienali Uluslararası Sanat Sergisi dünya ülkelerinin sanat alanında ulusal kimliklerini güçlendirmesine imkân sağlayacak bir organizasyon olarak tasarlanmış ve ilk sergisini 1895 yılında gerçekleştirmiştir. Ulusal davetin zorunlu olduğu bu etkinliğe uzun yıllar Avrupa’nın ve dünyanın sayılı ülkeleri davet edilmiş, Osmanlı İmparatorluğu ise resmi olarak son bulduğu tarihe dek Venedik Bienali sergilerine hiçbir zaman davet edilmemiş ve ulusal bir katılım göstermemiştir. Fakat yapılan araştırmayla Venedik Bienali temsilcilerinin 1914 yılında, bienal kapsamında gerçekleşecek Giuseppe De Nittis Retrospektif Sergisi için Osmanlı İmparatorluğu’nun ilgili makamlarıyla temas kurdukları tespit edilmiştir. Dönemin politik gelişmelerinin belirleyici olduğu günlerde iki ülke arasında kurulan bu temas, ilk kez ortaya çıkarılan belgeler eşliğinde ele alınmış ve makale içinde değerlendirilmiştir.

The Venice Biennale International Art Exhibition was designed as an organization that will enable countries of the world to strengthen their national identity in the field of art and its first exhibition was held in 1895. For many years, many countries in Europe and the world have been invited to this event, where national invitation is mandatory, and the Ottoman Empire has never been invited to the Venice Biennale exhibitions until it officially ends. But the research was found that the representatives of the Venice Biennale in 1914 contacted the relevant authorities of the Ottoman Empire for the Giuseppe De Nittis Retrospective Exhibition to be held under the Biennale. This contact, established between the two countries in the days when the political developments of the period were determining, was discussed and evaluated in the article along with the documents first revealed.

The Venice Biennale International Art Exhibition was designed as an organization that would enable the countries of the world to strengthen their national identity in the field of art, and held its first exhibition in 1895. To this event, where the national invitation was compulsory, many countries of Europe and the world were invited for many years, but the Ottoman Empire was never invited to the Venice Biennale exhibitions until the date it officially ended. Although the Ottoman Empire did not nationally participate in the Venice Biennale, it was determined that the representatives of the Venice Biennial made contact with the relevant authorities of the Ottoman Empire in 1914 regarding the Giuseppe De Nittis Retrospective Exhibition to be held within the scope of the Venice Biennale. In the days when the political developments of the period were determinative, this contact, which was established between the two countries, was discussed in the accompaniment of the documents revealed for the first time and evaluated in the article.
