Abstract:

Long-distance marriages are becoming more and more common between spouses due to the changing business and living conditions with globalization. Continuing the marriage from a distance brings with it a lot of self-sacrifice behaviour for the spouses. Therefore, in this study, the relationship between the perceived satisfaction and harm of self-sacrifice and the satisfaction of married couples, who maintain their relationships at a distance, was examined as a dyadic. The convenience sampling method was used in the study. The criteria for participating in the study were determined; married couples who stayed away from their home at least three nights a week, had a spouse residing in another region, and had been in long-distance relationships for at least 6 months were included in the sample. The research is a correlational study investigating the effects of individuals' perceived self-sacrifice satisfaction and harm on both their own marital satisfaction (actor effect) and their spouses' marital satisfaction (partner effect) in long-distance marriages. Relationships between dependent and independent variables were analyzed with Pearson correlation analysis, and actor and partner effects of variables were examined with Actor Partner Interdependence Model. The sample consisted of 101 couples (21-49 aged). The Marital Life Scale, the Sacrifice Satisfaction Scale, and the Perceived Sacrifice Harmfulness Scale were used as the data collection tools. Results showed that the actor and partner effects of the sacrifice satisfaction of the married couples on their marital satisfaction were positive and significant, and the actor and partner effects of the perceived harm in the sacrifice on their marital satisfaction were found to be negative and significant. The findings of the research were discussed, and the suggestions were made within the scope of the related literature.
