Background: The goal of this study is to evaluate the opinions of final year students about occupational health during their education at Ege University Medical Faculty. Methods: This is a descriptive and cross-sectional study including final year students who were educated in the academic years 2001-2002 and 2002-2003. The students (N:350) answered a twenty-question questionnaire that was developed by researchers. The purpose of this questionnaire is to determine whether the students are aware of the importance of occupational diseases and occupational history, when and in which apprenticeship period they took occupational health education and whether they have met patients who have been diagnosed with occupational diseases. Results: 55.3% of the students are men with an average age of 23.4±1.2. Almost all of them stated that they have wanted to have occupational health education available for each year since their third year at the faculty and to see occupational disease cases during their clinical training. 42.3% of the students were confident with regard to noticing the occupational diseases and 52.2% of the students were confident of taking history about occupational diseases. On the other hand, 41.5% of the students said that they frequently failed to notice occupational diseases. Conclusion: We determined that final year medical students were aware of the importance of occupational health. Students revealed clearly that occupational disease education given during their clinical education must be structured more efficiently.
