Abstract:

World War I ended with the Armistice of Mudros for the Ottoman Empire. The armistice was expected to start the diplomatic process. With a peace treaty, the conflict would be replaced by peace. However, the Armistice of Mudros was different from the previous armistice. Therefore, it was far from providing peace and serenity. This difference occurred both in the conditions of the armistice and during the implementation of the armistice. The aim of this study is to better understand the Armistice of Mudros and to reevaluate its importance in the historical process. For this purpose, firstly the word of armistice as a historical concept will be examined. Then as far as it has been reached, previous examples of armistice will be discussed. The Armistice of Mudros will be compared with other armistices in terms of its content, scope, implementation, results and effects and the differences and similarities of Mudros Armistice with other armistries will be determined. Thus will shed light on breaking point in the transition from the Ottoman Empire to the Turkish Republic. And it will be reached important hints about Turkish history and even history of the world in the 20th century.
