Abstract:

This article discusses the fundamental contradictions and determining areas of conflict throughout the nineteenth and twentieth centuries of Ottoman modernization. The concept of Ottoman modernization indicates the multi-faceted efforts of innovation with the acceptance of the empire being backward. This process, which lasted for two hundred years, was formed in order to save the Ottoman state. Thus, the modernization of the late Ottoman era has evolved by fighting with the natural twistings created by different social, economic and political dynamics, with the fear of military and bureaucratic access to the West. In this context, the article will try to explain what the fact of modernization as a product of the original conditions in the West means and how it occurs for the "Orient" Ottoman.
