Abstract:

The purpose of this article is to measure the effect of practice exams, which is an important factor in the teaching processes of 8th grade students, on the performance of the High School Entrance Exam. For this purpose, in the 2021-2022 academic year, the results of 42 8th grade students in 20 trial exams for 6 courses in Kahramanmaraş province were analyzed using the one-step stochastic Markov chain method. Markov models were created on the test results. Transition probability matrices of each model were found and limit matrices in stationary states were calculated. Results from the study: i) For Turkish, Turkish Revolution History and Kemalism, Foreign Language, Mathematics and Science courses, the transitions will be from the middle group to the upper group with the highest probability. ii) For the Religious Culture and Moral Knowledge course, the transitions will most likely be from the middle group to the middle group. iii) The stagnation years for Turkish lessons, Turkish Revolution History and Kemalism, Religious Culture and Ethics, Foreign Language, Mathematics and Science lessons were found to be 2024, 2026, 2023, 2025, 2024 and 2026, respectively. These results also indicate that student success can be improved steadily and at the same time in the regulated educational environment. Within the framework of the results obtained from the study, it has been suggested that new research should be carried out for wider audiences in teaching processes.
