Abstract:

The Darülfünun (1863-1933), built during its evolution, was an institution that gave very important clues to the transition from empire to nation-state. This study first revealed the situation of mobility in the school during the Balkan Wars (1912-1913) . In the course of the fight against the Balkans, the influence of the organizations through the Darülfün was attracted to the Great War (1914-1918), the National Struggle (1918-1923) and the Republic period. Thanks to the student meetings held prior to the Balkan Wars, the foundations of the spirit of "Mudafah-i Law" were put down. The conferences held in school by bright women at the most harsh time of the war were emphasized as a breakthrough moment in the development of Turkish women’s rights. It was focused on what kind of model for the future generations was their fellow-driven activities with civil organizations in the war. In the axis of assistance from foreign Turks and Muslims, it was pointed out how the ideologies and human feelings were put into war. Turks in Russia and Muslim communities in the Middle East have provided other supports, even when they are unable to provide the Ottoman directly with financial resources. In the Far East, Muslims living in India, China, Malaysia, Singapore and Indonesia have contacted the Ottoman in some way. But at the time of the war, the Ottomans were not only by the Turkish-Islamic world. While they respect Islam as a society, the help to the Turks has been extended from Japan, where the Muslim population is very small. One of the other key topics discussed in the study was the Turkish-Japanese friendship, which was strengthened by the Balkan Wars in the center of Darülfün. From here, the "ethical universe" was taken into account when the school struggled with quite severe conditions in the war. Darülfünun played a major role in the dialogue established with the youth of higher education in Tokyo during the Balkan Wars. Thus, Darülfün showed that a nevi was beyond being a ordinary educational institution. During that time, the relations established with the small giant of the Far East were positively reflected in the Republic of Turkey.
