Abstract:

The Kaaba, which has been the common qibla for Muslims all over the world since the birth of Islam, has been destroyed and rebuilt many times in history. One of these repairs and reconstructions was carried out by the Quraysh tribe, of which the Prophet was a member, in the pre-Islamic period. It is known that during the repair of the Kaaba by the Quraysh, there was a dispute among the tribes about which tribe would replace the Hajar al-Aswad stone, and the Prophet resolved this dispute. There are different opinions about the arbitration undertaken by the Prophet in the resolution of this dispute. One of these views is that the Prophet Muhammad was not among the arbitrators in the jahiliyyah period and that his arbitration at Ka'ba was only a coincidence. There are also those who argue that the Prophet was an arbitrator like the arbitrators in the pre-Islamic period. In this study, whether the Prophet's arbitration was different from the arbitration in the pre-Islamic Arab society is criticised in the context of the related narrations. However, firstly, some narrations about Hajar al-Aswad and the Ka'bah will be analysed in the context of the Prophet's arbitration of the Ka'bah. In this way, it is aimed to understand the subject more accurately in the minds of the readers.
