Abstract:

Beyşehir Lake Basin, located in the western part of the Central Anadolu Region, has a very important location in both historical and geographical terms. Indeed, this area, which has been widowed since the Neolithic era, has hosted different cultures. The existence of the road routes along both the west and the south during the Hittlers period, as well as being an important religious center, demonstrates the importance of the region. Although there are no written sources about the state of the region in the Iron Age, archaeological data indicate that Beyşehir Lake basin was also a scene of settlement in this period. Related to the Hellenistic and Roman periods of the region, information can be obtained from ancient literary sources, writings and archaeological findings. From ancient sources it is clear that the administrative boundaries of the region are often changed. In fact, Orondeis, referred to by Plinius as a sub-region of Pisidia, is shown in Ptolemaios Galatia. The 6th century writer Hierocles says that some of the cities of the region are Pisidia and some of the cities of Lykaonia. This study will focus on the political, socio-cultural and economic structure of the Orondeis region known to be associated with the Beyşehir surroundings.
