Bu çalışma sanatsal ve uygulamalı araştırma yöntemlerine ve akademik perspektiften seramik sanatına olası katkılarına odaklanmaktadır. Bu amaçla; çalışmada 1990'dan sonra şekillenmeye başlayan sanat temelli araştırma (art-based research), uygulama temelli araştırma (practice-based research), uygulama odaklı araştırma (practice-led research), sanatsal araştırma (artistic research), a/r/tografi (a/r/tography) gibi araştırma alanlarındaki yabancı literatür sunulmaktadır. Ayrıca, tarihte bunlara kaynaklık eden araştırma yöntemlerinin nasıl şekillendiği, yüksek öğretimde sanat alanındaki akademik anlayışın gelişimi kaynaklar aracılığı ile sunulmuştur. Araştırma, sonrasında seramik alanında lisansüstü öğrenime ve seramik malzemesine odaklanarak, odağını sonuç eserden çok sürece alan bu araştırma yöntemlerinin, seramik alanı için neden özel bir potansiyeli olduğunu tartışırken; bazı öneri ve çıkarımlarda bulunmaktadır. Bu araştırma alanlarının oluşturabileceği olası kaygılara dair de cevaplar vermek gayretinde olan bu çalışma ile; tarihsel, teorik ve pratiğe ait tüm yönleri ile bir çerçeve oluşturulmaya çalışılmıştır. Çalışma; araştırmacıya esnek ve özgün bir alan yaratan, bilimsel kabulün sınırlarını genişleten bu yöntemlerin seramik disiplini tarafından daha fazla sahiplenilmesini önermektedir.
This study focuses on artistic and applied research methods and their possible contributions to ceramic art from an academic perspective. For this purpose; in study foreign literature in research fields such as art-based research, practice-based research, practice-led research, artistic research and a/r/tography, which started to take shape after 1990, are presented. Additionally, how the research methods that gave rise to these approaches have been shaped in history and the development of academic understanding in the field of art in higher education are presented through sources. The research then shifts focus to postgraduate studies in ceramics and ceramic materials, discussing why these research methods, which emphasize process over final product, have a unique potential for the field of ceramics. The study also offers suggestions and conclusions. In an effort to provide answers to the possible concerns that these research fields may raise, this study attempts to create a framework with all its historical, theoretical and practical aspects. The study suggests that these methods, which create a flexible and unique space for the researcher and broaden the boundaries of scientific acceptance, should be embraced more by the ceramics discipline.
