Hans-Georg Gadamer, Hakikat ve Yöntem ve Güzelliğin Güncelliği adlı eserlerinde, sanatta meşruiyet sorununu oyun, sembol ve festival kavram üçlemesiyle ele alır. Gadamer, bu üç kavramın klasik sanat geleneği ile modern sanatın birliğini sağlayan insan deneyimlerinin antropolojik kökenlerine yönelik bilgiler sunduğu görüşündedir. Oyun, sembol ve festival kavramları insan türünün en eski deneyimlerinden günümüze kadar sürdüğü davranış formları şeklinde tanımlanır. Gadamer, sanatı da insan bilimlerinin yöntemlerine göre ele alarak, meşruiyet sorununu, kültürel bağlamların bir onayı şeklinde sunar. Çalışma, Gadamer’in sanatın meşruiyeti sorununu ele alınırken, meşruiyet kavramının tarihsel bağlamına yönelir. Bu çerçevede, meşruiyet durumunun, sanatı kontrol eden otoritelerin sanata yüklediği işlevle ilişkili olduğu görülür. Modern sanat tartışmalarının belirli bir kısmına yer verilerek yaşanan tartışmalardan açığa çıkan sorunların Gadamer’in yaklaşımıyla bazı değerlendirmeler yapılır. Makale içerik olarak Gadamer’in düşüncelerini sanatın meşruiyet sorunu çerçevesinde kuramsal ve kavramsal bir tartışma yürüten nitel bir çalışma örneği sunar. Çalışmada, öncelikle modern sanat akımlarının ortaya çıkış hikâyesine yer verilmiş ve sonrasında sanatın meşruiyet sorunu şeklinde ifade edilen tartışmalara nasıl evrildiği ele alınmıştır.
Hans-Georg Gadamer, in his works Truth and Method and The Contemporaneity of Beauty, addresses the problem of legitimacy in art with the concept trilogy of play, symbol and festival. Gadamer believes that these three concepts provide information about the anthropological origins of human experiences that unite classical art tradition and modern art. The concepts of play, symbol and festival are defined as forms of behavior that the human species has continued from its earliest experiences to the present day. Gadamer also treats art according to the methods of human sciences, presenting the question of legitimacy as an affirmation of cultural contexts. In addressing Gadamer's problem of the legitimacy of art, the study turns to the historical context of the concept of legitimacy. In this framework, it is seen that legitimacy is related to the function attributed to art by the authorities who control it. By including a certain part of the discussions on modern art, some evaluations are made with Gadamer's approach to the problems emerging from the discussions. In terms of content, the article presents an example of a qualitative study that conducts a theoretical and conceptual discussion of Gadamer's thoughts within the framework of the problem of legitimacy of art. In the study, firstly, the story of the emergence of modern art movements is given and then it is discussed how art evolved into the debates expressed as the problem of legitimacy of art.
