Arkeoloji ile dinler tarihi artık birbirlerine daha yakınlaşan iki bilim dalıdır. Özellikle de ülkemizde Göbeklitepe ve çevresindeki diğer Neolitik Çağ yerleşmelerinde ortaya çıkarılan zengin ve karmaşık sembolik eserler, anıtsal kutsal yapılar, ölüm uygulamaları, topluluğa ait standartlaşmış ayinsel düzenlemeler ve yerleştirmeler ile bu yakınlık adeta bir zorunluluk haline gelmiştir. Yaklaşık on iki bin yıl öncesinde başlayan Neolitik Çağ’da yerleşik yaşamı başlatan temel motivasyon kaynağının sosyal çevre, psiko-kültürel olgular, sembolik ve bilişsel dönüşümler ve dini ideolojiler olduğu ve bu çağda sistemli dinsel inançların varlığı çok sayıda arkeolojik bulgu ile anlaşılmıştır. Söz konusu keşifler arkeoloji ile dinler tarihi alanlarını birbirine daha fazla yaklaştırmaya başladıysa da, hala ilişkinin ve karşılıklı veri akışının istenilen düzeye geldiği söylenemez. Makale, arkeoloji ve dinler tarihi alanları arasındaki derin ilişkiye vurgu yapmak ve her iki cephe açısından bu yakınlığın inşasına engel olan bazı temel sorunsallardan bahsetmek istemektedir. Çalışma aynı zamanda, arkeolojik kanıtlar arasındaki mevcut dinsel unsurların sosyolojik ve antropolojik açıların yanı sıra doğrudan din bilimleri açısından da incelenmesi gerektiğine dikkat çekmeyi amaçlamaktadır. Arkeolojik kazılarda ortaya çıkarılan örneğin taş aletler veya bitki ve hayvan kalıntılarını incelemek için “jeoloji ve biyoloji” gibi bilim dallarıyla ilgili bazı temel ve spesifik bilgileri öğrenmek durumunda kaldığımız gibi, dinsel kanıtları tanımlamak ve yorumlamak için de “dinler tarihi”nin engin dünyasına girmek zorunda olduğumuz gerçeği yine bu çalışmanın savları arasındadır. Diğer taraftan, din bilimlerinin de insanı maddesel, kültürel ve fiziksel kalıntılarıyla inceleyen arkeoloji ve antropoloji gibi bilim dallarının verilerini takip etmek durumunda olduğu açıktır. Makale, bu amaçlarla yola çıkacak diğer bilimsel çalışmalara kuramsal ve eleştirel bir yaklaşımla bir çıkış noktası oluşturabilmeyi ummaktadır.
Archeology and the history of religions are now closer than ever. This closeness has become a necessity with the rich and complex symbolic finds, monumental sacred structures, death practices, standardized ritual arrangements, and installations of the society unearthed in Göbeklitepe and other Neolithic Age settlements around it in our country. It has been understood through many archaeological findings that the main motivation source that initiated settled life in the Neolithic Age, which started approximately twelve thousand years ago, was the social environment, psycho-cultural phenomena, symbolic and cognitive transformations, and religious ideologies. The existence of systematic religious beliefs was also detected in this period. Although these discoveries have begun to bring the fields of archeology and history of religions closer together, it cannot be said that the relationship and mutual data flow have reached the desired level. The article aims to emphasize the deep relationship between the fields of archeology and history of religions and to talk about some of the basic problems that prevent the establishment of this closeness on both fronts. The study also aims to draw attention to the fact that the religious elements among the archaeological evidence should be examined directly from the perspective of religious sciences as well as disciplines such as sociology and anthropology. Archaeologists need to learn the basic principles of the branch of biology and some specific information to examine some finds such as plant or animal remains unearthed during excavations. On the other hand, the fact that we need to penetrate the wide world of "history of religions" to define and interpret religious beliefs is among the arguments of this research. It is also clear that religious sciences must follow the data of branches of science such as archeology and anthropology, which study humans with their material, cultural, and physical remains. The study hopes to create a starting point with a theoretical and critical approach for other scientific studies that will set out for these purposes.
