Abstract:

Throughout history, man has tried various ways to achieve his goals. The person trying to reach his goals sometimes behaves in accordance with the ethical rules, but sometimes he does not observe this situation. One of the methods that people use to reach their goals is utilize the act of deception. Man has committed the act of deception in order to get rid of a negative situation he is in, to protect and maintain the situation he/she is in, and to turn the bad situation in his/her favour. The use of deception was recorded in the Hittite texts as in other societies. This action, which is documented in many different Hittite texts, can include deities, humans, animals and inanimate objects. It is recorded that a deity deceives another deity, man deceives another man, man deceives a deity, and deity deceives man. In addition, an act of deception was carried out by using live or inanimate proxies. It is also mentioned in the texts that those who commit the act of deception should not do this; otherwise they will be severely punished. These actions, which can sometimes even change the course of a war, were sometimes successful and sometimes not.
