Abstract:

In this study, the topic of unwanted student behaviors, which is always a matter discussed by teachers, is examined. The aim of this study is to investigate the unwanted student behaviors, their causes, the intervention methods to these behaviors, and the recommendations to deal with these behaviors stated in the qualitative studies through the meta-synthesis method. The data obtained by the document review technique was subjected to content analysis, and new themes and sub-themes were analyzed in this direction. According to the content analysis results, undesired student behaviors encountered in higher education institutions were divided into five themes, which could be defined as "behaviors that prevent learning of themselves and their friends", "behaviors that prevent them from learning themselves", "behaviors that put safety at risk", "behaviors that harm people and tools" and "behaviors that prevent socializing with other students". The causes of unwanted student behavior are divided into two themes: out of school factors and in-school factors. Out-of-school factors arise from family, environment and community culture, formal education, while school-related factors arise from education and school management, students and teachers.
