Abstract:

In this study, it is aimed to determine the opinions of teachers about the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic on students who have just started primary school. The research tried to reveal the progression of cognitive, emotional, and behavioral development of the students who were enrolled in the first grade at the beginning of the pandemic and continued to the third grade during the 2021-2022 academic year. The phenomenology design was preferred in the study. The participants of the research consist of 53 teachers who work as the third grade teachers in public schools in different regions of Turkey in the 2021-2022 academic year. As a result of the research, the differences observed in students were discussed in terms of cognitive and emotional development. In terms of cognitive development, it was concluded that there were differences in literacy skills, four operations skills, comprehension and perception, and learning motivation. In terms of emotional development, it has been determined that there are problems such as socialization, compliance with school and rules, indiscipline and technology addiction. The studies carried out by classroom teachers to eliminate these deficiencies have been revealed. Suggestions have been developed for practitioners and researchers in line with the findings.
