Abstract:

Abstract:

This study aims to determine whether the attitudes of primary second and third-class students to the life knowledge course vary according to gender, school type, class levels they study, and the settlements they study. The research has used a screening model. The sample of the study is made by 2013 students randomly selected among the students in two and third classes of 3 private and 16 state primary schools located in the districts of Yenice, Chan and Biga. Zayimoğlu Öztürk and Coşkun (2015) developed "Life Information Course Attitude Scale" and "Personal Information Form" have collected the research data. The student's "collective attitude points towards the life knowledge course" and the subfactors' total points have gained a significant difference in favor of the male students. Primary school second and third class students, "the total attitude points to the life knowledge course" and the negative attitude to the life knowledge course subfactor total points are significantly different to the benefit of the students who study in the second class of primary school; "the positive attitude to the life knowledge course" subfactor total points are not significantly different to the class level of study. The second and third classes of primary school students, "negative attitude towards the life knowledge course" and "positive attitude towards the life knowledge course" subfactors have been determined to be in favor of the students studying in the Central/Canakkale and Chang district's total points and "totally attitude points towards the life knowledge course". Primary school second and third class students have not achieved a significant difference according to the type of school in which they are studied "the total attitude towards the life knowledge course" and the subfactors.

Abstract:

The purpose of this study is to determine whether second and third grade primary school students' attitudes towards life science course change according to gender, type of school, grade level, and the province/district where they study. In this research, cross-sectional survey designs were used. The sample of the study consists of 2013 second and third grade primary school students from 3 private and 16 public primary schools in Çanakkale’s central district, and Yenice, Çan, Biga districts. The research data were collected by means of "Attitude Scale towards Life Science Course" developed by Zayimoğlu Öztürk and Coşkun (2015) and "Personal Information Form" developed by the researcher. A significant difference was found in favor of the male students in their “total attitude scores towards life science course” and sub-factor total scores. The "total attitude scores towards life science course" and the total negative attitude sub-factor scores towards life science course of the second and third grade primary school students were found to be significantly different in favor of the second-grade primary school students, whereas there was no significant difference in the total positive attitude sub-factor scores towards life science course according to grade level. The total negative attitude scores towards life science course, the total positive attitude sub-factor scores towards life science course and the total attitude scores towards life science course of the second and third grade primary school students were in favor of those who studied in Çanakkale’s center and Çan district. The total attitude and sub-factor scores of the second and third grade primary school students towards life science course were not significantly different according to type of school.
