Abstract:

The study will discuss the concept of ‘human nature’ which is unclean in terms of its limits and meaning and which cannot be clearly defined through the ideas of Karl Polanyi and E. P. Thompson, which are part of the historical sociology tradition, respectively, in the works of ‘The Great Transformation’ and ‘The Creation of the English Workers’ Class. Therefore, the study does not deal with the different opinions and thinkers in literature regarding the 'human nature' in detail. From here on, this study, which will focus on the ‘human nature’ of society as producer and product rather than the psychic characteristics of individual people, does not see the positioning of the market and society as opposite bilateral and assumes that they historically form each other. To understand this by Karl Polanyi and E. P. The examples of Thompson’s stated works will be tested by Polanyi’s ‘double movement theory’.
