Abstract:

Ageing is the last stage of the lifetime development process. The need for technological developments, as well as the development of health technology, the elderly population is experiencing an increase compared to the previous ages. The increase in the elderly population leads more responsibility to the country’s policy practices towards the elderly. Changes in the physical characteristics of the elderly causes them to need more care due to the increase of diseases. On the one hand, the development of technology on the other hand, as a result of the change in the social structure, the traditional family structure has begun to be abandoned. It is not possible to take care of the elderly and the family’s care and supervision at times today. The difficulty of living conditions and the change of living conditions have made it compulsory to develop other alternatives to the care of the elderly. At this point, peace houses, care houses, living centers that take over the care services of the elderly have gone to the way of creation. There is also an increase in the population of the elderly in Turkey. The industrialization, the change in social structure, the rapid development and spread of technology have increased the problems of elderly individuals. In Turkey, long-term policies need to be implemented in order for the elderly to continue their lives in a healthy, happy and peaceful way. This is why social services for the elderly are very important. The aim of the study in this context is to start with the regulations applied to the elderly, to reveal the problems that the elderly have experienced and to bring suggestions on this. In this study, the social services practices applied to the elderly have been thoroughly addressed. There are also social policies that are applied to elderly in some countries in the world. Finally, there are recommendations on the practices that can be organized to the elderly in Turkey.
