The phenomenon of modernization and modernization, which is historically based on the very ancient, especially in the West, with the efforts of illumination thinkers, has turned into an ideology, a world view, and with the abandonment of classical thought has led to the birth of a new world order. When it came to the end of the twentieth century, the developments that occurred in many fields and accelerated over time have led to increased debates about modernism and the debates focused on modernism have led to postmodernism. With the postmodern understanding, great changes and transformations have occurred in the field of public administration, and these changes have left the concept of modern public administration and prepared the ground for the formation of a new concept of public administration, the postmodern public administration. In the first part of the study, along with the concepts of "modernism" and "modernism", the extension of these concepts was also discussed. The main work area of the subject is to be able to correctly evaluate the relationship between postmodernism and public administration. Therefore, a rebellion against the ancient and traditional, which represents the mind and science, will make it easier for us to understand the discussions on the subject of modernism which symbolizes change. In the second part of the study, what postmodernism means, its characteristics, modernism and the oppositions to the modern world, the difference from modernism, and in the next part, the relationship between postmodernism and public administration was studied. In the result section, the postmodern public administration’s thought and future assessments were presented. The objective to be presented by this study is to present a theoretical discussion to the interest of the reader and to evaluate the future of public administration by revealing the relationship of concepts with public administration in the framework of modernism and postmodernism discussions.

The modern and modernisation phenomenon, which dates back to ancient times in terms of historical origin, has turned into an ideology, a worldview along with the efforts of the enlightenment thinkers especially in the west and this caused the birth of a new world order with the abandonment of the classical thought. Towards the end of 20th century, the developments that emerged in many areas and accelerated over time caused a gradual increase in the debates on the modernism and the debates focused on the modernism led to the postmodernism. Great changes and transformations took place in the field of public administration with the post-modern understanding and these changes, by abandoning the modernist public administration, paved the way for the formation of a new public administration understanding – postmodern public administration. In the first part of the study, the concepts of “modern” and “modernism” as well as the extensions of these concepts are discussed. In order to correctly evaluate the relationship between the postmodernism and public administration, which is the main field of study, it is important to clarify the issue of modernism. For this reason, understanding modernism, which represents reason and science, and symbolizing change and a revolt against the old and the traditional, will make it easier for us to understand the discussions on the subject. In the second part of the study, the meaning of postmodernism, its features, its objections against modernism and modern world, its difference from modernism are presented and subsequently the relationship between the postmodernism and public administration is examined. In the conclusion part, postmodern public administration thought and its future are evaluated. In essence, the aim of this study is to present a theoretical discussion to the attention of the reader by setting out the concepts of modernism and postmodernism with public administration within the framework of modernism and postmodernism discussions, and to evaluate the future of public administration.
