Bu çalışma, ortaokul öğrencilerinin matematiksel düşünmenin varsayımda bulunma bileşeni kapsamında kullanmış oldukları problem çözme stratejilerini incelemek amacıyla yapılmıştır. Araştırma nitel araştırma yöntemlerinden durum çalışması olarak tasarlanmıştır. Çalışma, 96 ortaokul öğrencisi ile yürütülmüştür. Araştırmada veriler, matematiksel düşünmenin varsayımda bulunma bileşenine yönelik olarak hazırlanan rutin olmayan problem ile elde edilmiş ve elde edilen verilerin analizi aşamasında içerik analizi kullanılmıştır. Öğrencilerin problemi çözerken kullanmış oldukları stratejiler incelendiğinde, denklem kurma ile tahmin ve kontrol stratejilerini kullandıkları belirlenmiştir. Bu doğrultuda öğrencilerin problem çözme stratejilerinden iki tanesini kullandıkları görülmüştür. Bu nedenle diğer problem çözme stratejileri de kullanabilmeleri için öğretim sürecinde bu noktaya dikkat edilmesi gerektiği düşünülmektedir.
This study was conducted to study the problem-solving strategies that high school students used within the presumption component of mathematical thinking. The research is designed as a state study of research methods. The study was conducted with 96 high school students. In the study, the data was obtained with the non-rutinely problem prepared for the presumption component of mathematical thinking and content analysis was used in the analysis stage of the obtained data. When students are studied the strategies they used to solve problems, it is determined that they use equations and forecast and control strategies. In this direction, students have been using two of the problem-solving strategies. Therefore, it is believed that this point should be taken into account in the teaching process in order to be able to use other problem-solving strategies too.
This study aims at scrutinizing the middle school students’ problem solving strategies with regard to the assumption component of mathematical thinking. The study is designed as a case study, among other qualitative research methods. The study group is comprised of 96 middle school students. The data in the study are obtained via non-routine problems prepared for the assumption component of mathematical thinking. When the strategies the students used in solving the problem are addressed, it is seen that they used the equating, with guess and verify strategies. In this respect, it is considered that the students used two of problem solving strategies and this issue should be paid attention in their education process in order for them to learn other problem solving strategies.
