Okul Müdürlerinin Okul Güvenliğini Sağlamaya Yönelik Stratejileri

Abstract:

Bu araştırmada okul müdürlerinin okul güvenliğini sağlamaya yönelik kullandıkları stratejileri belirlemek amaçlanmıştır. Nitel araştırma desenlerinden olgubilim deseninde tasarlanan bu araştırmanın çalışma gurubu maksimum çeşitlilik örnekleme yöntemi kullanılarak belirlenmiştir. Araştırmanın çalışma grubu Adıyaman ili merkez ilçe okullarında görev yapan 15 okul müdüründen oluşmaktadır. Araştırmanın verileri yarı yapılandırılmış görüşme formu aracılığıyla toplanmıştır. Görüşme formunun birinci bölümünde okul müdürlerine ilişkin kişisel bilgilere (cinsiyet, mesleki kıdem, yöneticilik kıdemi, branş ve görev yapılan okul türü) yer verilmiştir. Görüşme formunun ikinci bölümünde ise okul müdürlerinin okul güvenliğini sağlama stratejilerini belirlemeye yönelik 4 soru ve bu sorulara ilişkin 12 sonda soru yer almıştır. Elde edilen verilerin analizinde betimsel ve içerik analizi kullanılmıştır. Araştırma sonucunda okul müdürlerinin okul güvenliği sorununa yönelik farklı stratejiler kullandıkları belirlenmiştir. Araştırmanın sonuçları incelendiğinde okul müdürlerinin okul güvenliğini sağlamaya yönelik stratejilerinde polis modeli ve okul iklimi-kültürü yaklaşımına uygun stratejiler bulunmakla birlikte okul müdürlerinin öğrenciler arasında oluşabilecek güvenlik tehditlerine yönelik kullandıkları stratejilerin çoğunlukla okul iklimi-kültürü yaklaşımı; okulun fiziki koşullarından kaynaklanabilecek güvenlik tehditlerine, okul dışından gelebilecek güvenlik tehditlerine yönelik stratejileri ve okul güvenliğini sağlamaya yönelik önerileri çoğunlukla polis modeli yaklaşımı olduğu belirlenmiştir. Araştırma sonucundan yola çıkılarak okul müdürlerinin okullarda yaşadıkları güvenlik sorunlarının türüne göre polis modeli ve okul iklimi-kültürü yaklaşımlarını kullandıkları söylenebilir.

Abstract:

This study aims to identify the strategies that school managers use to ensure school safety. The workgroup of this research, designed in the scientific model of the quality research patterns, is determined using the maximum variety sampling method. The research group consists of 15 school directors who work in the Central District Schools. The data of the study was collected through a semi-configured interview form. The first part of the interview form contains personal information about school managers (gender, professional status, managerial status, branch and type of school in charge). In the second section of the interview form, the school directors have 4 questions to determine the strategies of school safety and 12 questions to the end of these questions. In the analysis of the obtained data, visual and content analysis was used. The research has found that school managers use different strategies to address the school safety issue. When the results of the study are examined, the school managers’ policies to ensure school safety have strategies in accordance with the police model and the school climate-cultural approach, but the strategies that the school managers use to address security threats that may occur among students are mostly school climate-cultural approach; the school’s physical conditions can lead to security threats, the strategies toward security threats that may come from outside the school and the recommendations to ensure school safety are mostly the police model approach. From the research outcome, school managers can say they use police model and school climate-cultural approaches according to the type of security problems they experience in schools.

Abstract:

The present study aimed to determine the strategies school principals utilize to ensure school security. The study group of the study, which is designed with phenomenological method, a qualitative research design, was determined with the maximum diversity sampling method. The study group included 15 school principals employed in Adıyaman province central district schools. Study data were collected with a semi-structured interview form. In the first section of the interview form, personal information about the school principals (gender, professional seniority, administrative seniority, branch and school type of employment) was collected. The second section of the interview form included 4 questions that aimed to determine the strategies of school principals to ensure school security and 12 probe questions related to the initial 4 questions. Data analysis was conducted with descriptive and content analysis. Study findings demonstrated that school principals utilized different strategies for school security issues. As a result of the study, although the strategies of school principals to ensure school security included police model and school climate-culture approaches, it was determined that the strategies used by school principals to deal with the security issues among the students included mostly school climate-culture approach and school principals generally utilized the police model approach to tackle the security threats that arise from the physical school conditions, against external security threats and they proposed the same model to ensure the school security. In conclusion, it can be stated that school principals use police model and school climate-culture approaches based on the type of the security problems experienced in their schools.
