Abstract:

The aim of this study is to determine the perceptions of students studying in high schools about the readers' authenticity in terms of various variables. The data related to the study was collected with the "Read Self-Equality Scale" which was developed by Ulper, Yaylı and Karakaya (2013). The research was carried out with 540 students who are studying in various high schools in the center of Kütahya during the 2017-2018 academic year. In the analysis of data, visual statistics were used; the data collected through the survey, independent sampling t test and one-factor variance analysis (ANOVA) were understood. According to the research findings, there was no statistically significant difference between the scale of reading self-sufficiency according to the gender of the students. The difference between the scores of the 12th grade students' readership levels was determined to be significantly different from the 9th grade. The scale of reading self-sufficiency has been shown that the average score varies in favour of those who have a high family income level; the difference between the scale of reading self-sufficiency in terms of frequency of reading is seen against those who never read or less read. There is a significant difference between the number of books read each year and the type of school and the average score of the readers; there is no significant difference between the mother and father educational conditions and the average score of the readers. In the study, results and suggestions were presented from the findings obtained.
