Abstract:

It is known that some human factors, physical geographic conditions as well as the land forms and climate, have also important effect on the selection of location of settlement and economic. Transportation, which is one of the important elements of geographic view, is the leading one. Transportation activities are perceptibly effective on both natural environment and human environment. This change is especially more explicit in land transportation systems. Many settlements are really developed or underdeveloped based on transportation in different aspects, from their location to land use. One of these settlements is Yeniçubuk Town, on the location of which transportation is effective. Yeniçubuk Town is a town of Gemerek dictrict, Sivas. The settling of migrant families, who came from Balkan states by the population exchange in 1936, has played a major role in the settlement of the town, which is located in Sivas-Kayseri highway and railway line. It has become one of the important settlements around since that date, especially with the effects of the developments in railroads. Hence, municipal organization was established in the town in 1957, the population which continuously increased by those who came from the villages around and from the eastern parts of the country. A construction plan was prepared in 1968 for the planned and orderly development of the settlement and the settlement was maintained in accordance with that plan. In this study, it is tried to point out the settlement, development, and functional properties of Yeniçubuk town, where transportation lines are effective on the selection of location. Within this framework, it is put emphasize on the changes which transportation systems cause in the plan and texture of the settlement
