Abstract:

The 1957 elections, the fourth general election after the multi-party political life in Turkey, are an important place in the Turkish political history. These elections, which should be held in normal conditions in 1958, but were taken a year earlier by the government, took place with the participation of the ruling Democratic Party (DP), the Republican People's Party (CHP), the Hürriyet Party (HP), the Republican National Party (CMP), and although they were not felt in the propaganda process, the participation of the Turkish Village Party and the Vatan Party. The elections of 1957, the number of political parties participating in the election, the initiatives of inter-party cooperation before the election, if necessary in terms of electoral propaganda and ultimately with the claims of post-election corruption, formed politics in Turkey, directed democracy. Therefore, the 1957 elections need to be examined in many aspects. In our study, the propaganda activities in the election process will be examined due to the difficulty of addressing all of the topics mentioned. In this context, the political party leaders’ statements focused on the debates in the propaganda process have been discussed in various aspects. The sources requested are the national newspapers, memories and various research works of the time.
