Abstract:

In this study, the behavior of high school teachers attracting the attention of students in class was studied according to the teachers and students' opinions. Research is a study in the screening model.  The universe of research is formed by teachers and students in high schools located in the central districts of Adana in the 2014-2015 educational year. To determine the sample of the study, 20% of the existing schools in each district were randomly selected. The study included 432 teachers and 1023 students voluntarily from 40 schools. In the collection of data, the researchers used a parallel-developed survey for teachers and students. The research finds that teachers are more to attract the attention of students in the class; answering questions, appreciating positive behaviors, processing classes according to the student level, providing silence in the classroom, allowing students to link what they know with new information, making changes in sound tone and highlighting the important places of the subject.  It has been shown that teachers’ attraction behaviors differ in terms of gender, branch, year of service, students’ perceptions of academic success and attention levels. The results from students showed that teachers were trying to attract the attention of the class by providing more silence and telling them that questions will come out in the exam. In terms of gender, girls, and students of the fifth class, who perceive themselves carefully, have noted that teachers often show behaviors aimed at attracting attention.  It has been shown that teachers are more positive than students about the frequency of attracting attention to their behavior in the class.
