Abstract:

The aim of this research is to examine the fear of COVID-19 and life satisfaction of gifted secondary school students who benefit from Science and Art Centers (BİLSEM) in the context of various variables, and to examine the relationship between fear of COVID-19 and life satisfaction in students. Relational comparison design, one of the quantitative research methods, was used in the research. The universe of the research consisted of secondary school students who benefited from BİLSEMs in Muğla, and the sample was 103 secondary school students attending Fethiye BİLSEM. In the study, data were collected with the personal information form, the Children's Satisfaction with Life Scale (CSLS), and the COVID-19 Fear Scale (C-19 FS). Since the scale scores used in the study did not show normal distribution, non-parametric test techniques Mann Whitney U Test, Mann Whitney U Test, Kruskal Wallis Test and Spearman Correlation Analysis test were used in data analysis. According to the results of the research, it was determined that there was no significant difference between the CSLS scores of the gifted students according to gender, grade level, number of siblings, the order of the student in the family, and the educational status of their parents. It was found that there was a significant difference between the C-19 FS scores of gifted students according to gender, grade level and mother's education level; it was determined that there was no significant difference in the number of siblings, the rank of the student in the family and the educational status of the father. It has been determined that there is a negative, moderately significant relationship between the CSLS and C-19 FS scores of the gifted students. Based on the results of the research, it is recommended to provide support to students and families in terms of psychological resilience, methods of coping with the crisis, and family communication and parent communication in order to reduce the fear of COVID-19 in students and families.
