Amaç: Tanımlayıcı tipte olan araştırmada engelli çocuğa sahip ailelerin yaşadığı sorunların saptanması amaçlanmıştır. Gereç ve Yöntem: Araştırma Manisa ilinde bulunan bir zihinsel engelliler rehabilitasyon merkezine kayıtlı engelli bireylerin aileleri ile yürütülmüştür. Araştırmanın örneklemini zihinsel engelliler rehabilitasyon merkezine kayıtlı engelli bireylerin 106 ailesi oluşturmuştur. Veriler araştırmacılar tarafından oluşturulan 28 soruluk anket formu ile toplanmıştır. Bulgular ve Sonuç: Araştırma kapsamına alınan ailelerdeki engelli çocukların yaş ortalaması 9.5±4.2’dir. Ailelerin sahip olduğu çocuk sayısı 2.9±1.2’dur. Ailelerin % 26.4’ünün başka engelli çocuğu daha bulunurken, % 17.9’unun evliliği akraba evliliğidir. Engelli çocuklara bakım verenlerin büyük çoğunluğu % 93.4 birinci derece yakınlarıdır. Engelli çocukların ailelerinin karşılaştıkları sorunlar, “engellinin bakımında yardım alacakları kimsenin olmaması % 88.7 ”, “çocuğun geleceği ile ilgili kaygılar % 82.1 ”, “aile içinde uyumsuzluk %50.9 ”, “engelin yaşam kısıtlayıcılığı % 49.1 ”, “engelli çocuğun sağlık sorunlarının tedavisinde karşılaşılan sorunlar % 42.5 ”, “engelli çocuğunun bakımının oluşturduğu ek masraf % 25.5 ”, “ailenin engelden dolayı birbirini suçlaması % 17.9 ” olarak belirlenmiştir. Bu araştırmada “anne-babanın yaşı”, “ailenin gelir düzeyi”, engelli çocuğun cinsiyeti”, “ek masrafla karşılaşma”, “engelli çocuğun bakımında yardım alma”, “engelin doğuştan ya da edinsel olduğu”, “engelin tipi” ve “engelin farkına varıldığı zaman” gibi değişkenlerin ailelerin engelli çocuğun bakımında yaşadığı sorunları pek etkilemediği görülmüştür. Etkileyen değişkenlerden; “ailede başka bir engelli çocuğun olması”nın aile üyelerinin engel nedeniyle birbirini suçlamasını azalttığı ve “engelli çocuğun bakımının ek masraf yaratıyor olması”nın engelli çocuğun tedavisinde güçlükler yaşanmasını arttırdığı belirlenmiştir. Son yıllarda engellilere ve ailelerine sunulan hizmetlerdeki gelişmelere rağmen, bu araştırmanın bulguları engelli çocuğa sahip olan ailelerin yaşadığı sorunların sürdüğünü düşündürmektedir
Purpose: In the identificative type of study, it is aimed at identifying the problems that families with disabled children experience. Tools and Methods: The research was conducted with the families of disabled persons registered in a mental disabled rehabilitation center in Manisa. The sample of the study consisted of 106 families of persons with disabilities registered in the rehabilitation center for mental disabilities. The data was collected with 28 question survey forms created by the researchers. Results and Results: The average age of disabled children in the families covered by the study is 9.5±4.2. The number of children in the family is 2.9±1.2. 26.4 per cent of the families have other disabled children, while 17.9 per cent of the families are married by relatives. The majority of those who take care of disabled children are 93. They are close to the first grade. Problems with which the families of disabled children face, "No one to receive assistance in the care of the disabled child is 88.7%, "The concerns about the child's future are 82.1%, "Incompatibility in the family is 50.9%, "The life limitation of the disabled child is 49.1%, "The problems with the treatment of the health problems of the disabled child is 42.5%, "The additional cost of the care of the disabled child is 25.5%, "The family accuses each other for the disability is 17.9%. " The study found that variables such as "the age of the mother-father", "the income level of the family", the gender of the disabled child", "to meet additional expenses", "to receive assistance in the care of the disabled child", "whether the disabled is born or adopted", "the type of the disabled" and "when the disabled is noticed" did not much affect the problems that families experience in the care of the disabled child. The influential variables have been determined that “the existence of another disabled child in the family” reduces the fact that family members blame each other because of the obstacle and that “the care of the disabled child creates additional costs” increases the difficulty in treating the disabled child. Despite the developments in the services offered to persons with disabilities and their families in recent years, the findings of this study suggest that families with disabilities have continued to experience problems.
