This study addresses the criticisms directed at the securitization theory which has been developed by the Copenhagen School and is commonly used in explaining contemporary security issues. The present paper further discusses the main premises of those critics and discusses the state of securitization theory in wider social sciences. It should be noted that given the lack of Turkish-language works on the securitization theory, this article represents a key research in crıtıcally reviewing the discussions on general hypotheses and criticisms of the theory.
