Abstract:

Purpose: This study aims to investigate the relationship between CD44 and VEGF expression and lymphatic nod metastasis, which is one of the important prognostic factors in breast cancer. Tools and Methods: In this retrospective study, 62 invasive breast carcinoma patients were included in the 1990-2000 years of modification of radical mastectomy in the Ataturk University Faculty of Medicine (FÜTF) Department of Pathology. The pathological samples of these patients were evaluated in terms of the prognostic factors of breast cancer. Immunohistochemical painting was subsequently performed by the method of streptavidinbiotin peroxidase to determine the expression of CD44 and VEGF in tumor cells. The average age of patients was 50.7±10.66. In 17 cases (27% of the cases). The metastasis of the lymphatic nodes has not been detected. In 45 patients with lymphatic nodus shrinking, 21 (33.9%) had 1-3 metastases and 24 (38.7%) had 4-9 metastases. There was no meaningful correlation between some classical prognostic factors such as age, macroscopic tumor diameter, lymphovascular invasion and inflammatory reaction and CD44 and VEGF expression. However, lymphatic nod metastasis and CD44 and VEGF expression have been statistically linked (as a result, Anova p <0.001, p =0.013). Additionally, the CD44 and VEGF expressions are also identified as coral with the histological type, histological degree and stage. As a result; in breast cancer, the expression of CD44 and VEGF is worth research as a prognosis indicator.
