Hadis kaynaklarında Hz. Peygamber (s.a.v.) döneminde Medine’de yaşamış olan İbn Sayyad adında bir çocuktan söz edilmektedir. Rivayetlerin muhtevasından çocuğun dikkat çeken farklı birisi olduğu ve bazı kehanetlerde bulunduğu anlaşılmaktadır. Konuyla ilgili rivayetlerde Hz. Peygamber’in sokakta çocukların arasında oynarken gördüğü İbn Sayyad’la arasında geçen diyaloglara yer verilmektedir. Hz. Peygamber, ‘Benim Allah’ın elçisi olduğuma şahitlik ediyor musun?’ diye sorunca İbn Sayyad, ‘Hayır! Bilakis sen benim Allah’ın elçisi olduğuma şahitlik ediyor musun? demiştir. Hz. Peygamber’in onun durumuna sahabeye göstermek için bazı sorular sorduğu da yer almaktadır. Hz. Peygamber’in çocuğun durumunu tam olarak anlamak için onu gizlice takip ettiği, İbn Sayyad’ın bulunduğu hurmalığa gittiği ve hurma dallarıyla kendini gizleyerek ondan bir şeyler işitmeye çalıştığı da belirtilmektedir. İbn Sayyâd ile ilgili rivayetler birçek hadis kaynağında yer almaktadır. Bu rivayetleri toplu halde Muslim’de (Kitabu’l-Fiten “Babu zikri İbn Sayyad”, IV, 2240-47) bulmak mümkündür. Konuyla ilgili rivayetlere bir arada ve en çok yer veren Muslim olduğu için onun rivayetlerini araştırma konusu yaptık.
