Purpose: In Diyarbakır, the autopsy of childhood firearm deaths has been studied medical findings, characteristics, investigation information, and the effects of firearm holding on children and the possible solutions to prevent similar events are intended to be discussed. Method: Deaths due to firearm in people under the age of 18 who were carried out an autopsy between 2014 and 2018 by the Directorate of the Judicial Medical Group of Diyarbakır were examined retrospectively through the organized autopsy attitudes. Results: 5.7 percent of firearm deaths from autopsy occurred in childhood. In our study, 62 facts (92,5%) were in the school period of childhood. The number of male incidents was 43 (64.2%), and the number of female incidents was 24 (35.8%). While suicide occurred more frequently (21 cases, 31.3 percent), murder and accident occurred less frequently (11 cases, 16.4 percent, 8 cases, 12 percent). In 54.1% of female incidents (13 incidents) suicide etiology is assessed. In 33 cases (49.2 percent) short-term weapons were used and in 33 cases (49.2 percent) long-term weapons were used. The number of deaths occurred at the site of the incident was 42 (62.6%) and 25 (37.4%) died in the hospital. In fifty-nine cases (88%) there are one-fire weapon wounds, and more than one-fire weapon wounds were detected in eight cases (12%). The result: We believe that the control of individual weapons by serious mechanisms, the prevention of children’s access to firearms and the social awareness of the damages that firearms may cause will make us less confronted with such events.
